I love the Masters golf tournament and this year saw something unique. Usually when Tiger Woods is in the hunt to win a major he saves his best for the final round and beats the field. This year saw a relative unknown player, Zach Johnson take control and not reliquish his lead to win his first major championship. That final round can teach people a lot about performance. Zach decided not to look at the leaderboard until the tee shot on the 17th hole. This was done on purpose so he would not get ahead of himself and stay focused on the present hole. Zach did a great job by playing to his strengths and just playing the course and not other players. Augusta National golf course was playing extremely difficult which challenged all the players both physically and mentally. Most players said that patience was a necessary trait during the cruelling rounds. The golf fans also learned that even the best golfer of our generation, Tiger Woods can not overcome physical swing flaws with great mental skills. Part of any peak performance is allowing the physical skills to be on automatice. Tiger was struggling with his full swing shots and the frustration was effident throughout the weekend.Tiger was always thinking about his swing and trusting it under pressure became difficult. This tournament went to the player that stayed patient, executed under pressure, and played to his strength. It is possible for David to slay Goliath!
