I had the pleasure of meeting up with some past clients for lunch yesterday and realized these individuals possessed a vital attribute to peak performance, having fun. These gentlemen work in the financial industry and all have been quite successful for many years. At lunch, our waitress came over to me and said, “You have been laughing the entire time.” She was right I was enjoying the hilarious stories they were telling about the experiences that they had working together. Since I work for myself I have forgotten about the relationships of working with a team. What these gentlemen did was they had a balance in the work environment of professionalism and fun. It has been proven time and time again that individuals will get more accomplished in an environment that they like than one they don’t like. It is so important to look at the seriousness of business with a different perspective. We perform better when we are having fun. Check in with yourself to see if your career has become too serious and start seeing the funny elements. For these individuals you could tell they enjoyed their work environment and their attitude showed it.
