My business revolves around improving performance with athletes and business professionals. There is so much information out there about what works and what doesn’t. As part of my Doctorate studies the main focus was to sift through the entire so-called performance enhancement techniques and find the ones that really work when it matters most, under stress. What is great about University studies is that certain techniques can be put to the test. To stay on top of the industry I read several journals that review the latest research. My favorite is the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology. As my last post indicated that enjoyment will improve performance. In the latest JASP East Carolina University studied the affects of enjoyment on exercise and found that when enjoyment level was used to design exercise programs the affects were positive. Individuals exercised more often and felt better afterward. Unfortunately, I see so many athletes who now dread their training because they have lost the enjoyment factor. They go through the motions and don’t get better. It is time to shake up the old routine and find something you enjoy that will still improve your skills. Remember what has worked in the past for you and use it again. Enjoyment will sustain motivation which in turn will improve performance.
