One of my clients attempted to qualify for this year’s British Open golf tournament. He currently plays on the Canadian Tour and has had mixed results this year. At the British Open qualifier he played well, but just missed making it by a few shots. As he shared his two rounds with me I could tell he wasn’t disappointed. He achieved a scoring goal on one of the courses, Oakland Hills (played the Ryder Cup there in 2006). He said it was the toughest course he had ever played and he had played in the 2005 US Open at Pinehurst. He also said something that was a turning point, “I do belong with those top players”. He was paired with a PGA Tour winner and played him shot for shot. The shift in belief for him was key. When we can admit that we are good enough it takes the doubt out and frees us up to play. Where is a place you want to say, “I do belong”? |
