Last month my wife and I took the kids to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. I love rollar coasters and I was able to go on a few without my small children. I was fascinated how people waited to get on these fast, winding coasters. Anticipating what was to come created fear in some (some got out of line) and excitement in others. After waiting for 30 minutes I found myself watching the coaster speed above me, thinking of both the exhilaration of the speed and the fear of what if something happens. As it turns out, the 30 minutes of waiting was for 60 seconds of a ride. It is the same in life. We look at events that are coming up and we anticipate both the good and the bad. The more we place our attention on it the more varied our feelings. It is the same with the big sales presentation or the big golf tournament. Allowing the event to be bigger than it is or dwelling on the negative will certainly create fear. The key is to be aware of the upcoming event, prepare for the outcome you want, and get excited about the opportunity because it will be gone in 60 seconds.
