Most athelets today are taught to be modest and closed lipped when speaking to the media. It is refreshing when an athlete steps up and declares he is ready to take on the best. This happened with golfer Rory Sabbatini. Rory is a top professional golfer who came out a few months ago and said that Tiger Woods is beatable. Rory kept the statement simple, yet the media got all over him for “challenging” the great Tiger. I was a little surprised with the statement, but working with professional athletes I know that statement can actually help the confidence of the performer. Unfortunately in this case, Rory got his wish. A few weeks ago Rory had a one shot lead over Tiger in the final round of the World Golf Championship. It didn’t take long for Tiger to take charge and dominate the final round and win by 8 shots. It will be interesting how Rory will respond to this defeat. I do know that you better be careful what you ask for especially when it comes to challenging the best player in the world. Having true confidence is an inside job. It doesn’t have to be declared to the masses.
