It is easy in the information age to seek out resources that will answer a question, improve lives, and entertain. Yesterday’s blog post I started a new format to share information that will help improve lives. I believe that our society is getting more competitive and what worked a few years ago will not work today. I have experienced in athletics that there is always someone younger and more talented waiting in the wings. This should not be viewed as a negative. With competition comes growth. Growth will come first from the mind and embracing that change is needed to match the new challenges. You will win if your mindset is trained at a higher level than your competition. What I will be providing in the coming months is not only what needs to be trained, but the how to train your new mindset. Your mindset is that powerful that it can overcome other short comings. What frustrates me are those that have the “talents” yet have not developed the mindset to be great. These individuals are always looking to improve physical skill or education and ignore the most powerful resource we all possess. We have all seen people who had the “it” factor yet never fully realized their potential. In golf the name John Daly is synonymous with a golfer who had the talent, yet could not consistently master his mental game to stay on top. John struggled with off course issues that affected his focus and dedication to his game. My message is that no matter what is going on in your life you still have a responsibility to yourself to be at your best. Your competition doesn’t care what is going on in your life. To overcome your circumstances and still be focused on what is important is the key. For an athlete he needs to stay focused on training and the present moment. A business executive will need to stay focused on the current proposal and sales meeting. Focus is a mental skill. These are simple examples that on a daily basis you have a choice on where you place your attention. If we get pulled away from our “performance” to non relevant items we will not succeed. As I elaborate on the Training Formula for Peak Performance you will understand what all the mental skills are and how you will improve those skills today. This training formula is for you and those that care about how they live life. We are performing on a daily basis in many roles. These roles may be parent, spouse, executive, volunteer, and others that you want to be at your best because these roles make up your identity. Start today by defining your performing roles and knowing that your mindset will contribute to how successful you perform those roles. |
